This is the intro sequence for my final university project, a game called "Redeemer". Instead of the usual 3D intro sequence you see in most games, I decided to film it with actors and composite them into the game world. This is the result :)

I've been working on a new effect that I'm extremely happy with, using FXhome CompositeLab Pro and EffectsLab pro. If you look closely, you'll see an artificial shadow, a heatwave and smoke billowing. I'm really pleased with it.

This effect was done in FXhome CompositeLab Pro and in my opinion, is just so damn cool.

This effect was done in FXhome CompositeLab Pro, using a poser model I downloaded and animated. Used in "Redeemer", my final year university major project.

This was my second attempt at creating a "Smallville" speed running effect. I wanted to try something different, and creating the above effect was time consuming. It's not perfect, but it shows that it can be done, and with enough planning, effort and free time, anything's possible. |

This was my first attempt at creating a "Smallville" speed running effect. I added the can falling at a normal speed as a nice little touch, to show interactivity and promote suspension of disbelief.

This was my very first attempt at a lightsaber effect, using Method 1 described in my tutorials. I used Adobe Premiere lens flares to create the contact flashes, which look crappy as hell. This is also my very first attempt at creating lightning, using one of AlamDV's plug-ins.
See The Unwritten Rule Trilogy for better examples of my lightsaber effects as they improve over time. |

My first attempts at creating a lightning effect failed miserably, as I didn't have enough experience with After Effects to fully understand what I was doing (I didn't have the PS+Ripple effect and I couldn't figure out why - turns out it's a Production Bundle effect). I moved on to one of AlamDV's lightning plug-ins, but it just wasn't as good as the effects I'd seen in some Star Wars Fan Films, which use the After Effects technique. So I went back and tried again, and came up with this for "Ex". |

This was my first attempt at creating a levitation effect. It uses the same principals as the Clone and Super-Fast Running effects, it's all about masking. The above example is far from perfect. There were lighting inconsistencies between the clips and Michael (who was guiding the ball on the end of a string) got in the way a bit. But it showed me I could do it, with a little more planning and time.

This is my final Clone test. After seeing the previous two, Michael Humphrey had the idea of creating a clip with multiple clones in it. Since my parents were on holiday in the States, and I was desperately looking for a job, we had the idea of creating a story that I had found a job with a genetics research company, but something had gone wrong, and I had ended up with multiple copies of myself as roommates. Something to make the folks giggle when they got home. It's quite long so I trimmed it and sped it up, to keep the file size down.

With this test I wanted to do something simple and funny. I didn't write a script or anything, I just filmed myself talking crap, and then filmed myself again, trying to remember what I'd said previously, and react to it appropriately. It didn't work as well as I'd hoped, so I had to fiddle about in a video editor to get them to appear synched.

This is actually my second attempt at a Clone effect, my first being of such low quality that I don't see the benefit of showing it. It was basically what you see above, but I went back and did it again from scratch. It was fairly easy to accomplish until the two "Me"s interact with each other... that took an hour or so to get it to work, carefully masking around my fist. |
