| Game Design 2 | (GAD022) | | View Brief | | Produce an interactive prototype game on two different platforms. | | This was a fun but difficult project to work on. I had to make a 2D maze game in Director which called for a lot of scripting, something I've never been very good at. It took me ages to do, but working on the intro movie was a real joy. We made a papermache set with puppets and cardboard cut-outs for silhouettes and added an old-style silent film filter to the video. I then wrote a poem to go along with the video and recorded it with a very bad microphone to simulate age. We're all very proud of how it came out, and the university even uses it to show to prospective students at open days. | | | | Designing for the User | (IND382) | | View Brief | | Pick a subject and target audience and design a website for your choice. | | I got a great deal of joy working on this project. My idea was to create a website targeted at student film makers interested in visual effects. I wrote tutorials, made example clips and created the entire site in Flash. | | | | Contextual Practise 2 | | (IND482) | | View Brief | | Write a hypertext document, quoting a text and relating it to your own work. | | I must admit, I really hated this brief and didn't do very well, because I just wanted to concentrate on the other projects. |

| Aspects of Play | (IND392) | | View Brief | | Create a partially working game in Macromedia Director. | | Though the brief stated it wasn't necessary to make a fully working game, I really should have worked harder on this. Again, using Director isn't a pleasant experience for me, particularly when it comes to scripting, but I did what I could. I created a semi-working prototype for a game based on The Unwritten Rule Trilogy. Had I finished it the game would have actually been 3 mini-games in 1. Only the first game, "Deflection" works... sort of. You get the idea anyway. | | | | Client Related Practise | (GAD032) | | View Brief | | Create a design document for a new game in the Alien Breed series of games. | | This project was exciting in that the brief was actually given to us by Team17, creators of the Alien Breed and Worms series of games. My partner and I came up with a good design document for a possible continuation of the series, which Team17 seemed to be impressed with. | |
